Job Description

The team is responsible for managing the relationship with key regulators, the FCA and PRA.

The current team was established in 2014 following a significant increase in demands and coordinated action by our regulators, which required a consolidation of the relationship management of the FCA and PRA to create an efficient and forward-thinking Team. The team works very closely with colleagues from Compliance Advisory and the Regional Regulatory Management teams, in Germany, the US and Asia Pacific.

The team’s mission is to safeguard the integrity and reputation of the Bank while promoting a culture of compliance with key supervisory and regulatory priorities, applicable rules and best practices.

This role will support the day-to-day relationship with the UK Regulators and facilitate the day to day running of the team. Given the changing regulatory landscape, an individual with a background in Prudential topics would be particularly well suited to the role.

 

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Holding frequent meetings with the UK Regulators to discuss and manage their concerns, ensuring a good alignment between their requests and the underlying concerns they are trying to address and driving the resolution or closure of any concerns raised by the FCA and PRA
  • Providing verbal or written briefings to Senior Business, Regional and Infrastructure management on UK regulatory trends, issues and remediation. Also preparing staff for their meetings with the Regulators
  • Working closely with Compliance, Legal and other divisions on any enquiries, breaches or litigation to ensure that our relevant global Regulators are provided with the relevant information in a timely and coordinated fashion
  • Escalating concerns or important matters relating to FCA and PRA to Senior management and within the Regulatory Management Group in a timely and constructive manner
  • Working with respective counterparts in the United States, Germany and Asia on management and potential (global) impact of various market events
  • Facilitating the coordination of global regulatory audits, identifying regulatory trends and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the global team
  • Working with other members of the team on establishing and building a pro-active relationship and dialogue with selected business areas on relevant regulatory topics and their potential impact and implications
  • Pro-actively acquiring knowledge of relevant business and adding value
  • Maintaining an extensive audit trail of the Bank’s interactions with the FCA and PRA and providing Management Information driven from this

 

Requisite skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the key objectives, concerns and trends within both the FCA and the PRA, a focus on PRA would be beneficial
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how the UK Regulators think about issues, with a broad perspective on issues impacting the European Union more generally
  • Self-starter who demonstrates confidence and the ability to take the initiative, engaging with others and overcoming institutional inertia, especially where action is needed to proactively address changing regulatory expectations
  • A creative problem-solver with the ability to build trust and sustain relationships, handle conflict and pressure and deal with sensitive tasks and issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to express complex ideas and arguments clearly and effectively
  • Confident in delivering and handling difficult messages and situations, both internally with Senior management and externally with the Regulators
  • Capable of managing multiple projects in parallel under short time constraints with the ability to rapidly adapt to issues dynamically arise and develop
  • Very organised with strong coordination, delivery and analytical skills
  • Enthusiastic team player and able to collaborate effectively with others to get things done
  • Understanding and interest in Government and Regulatory policy issues
  • Understanding of some parts of the banking business would be a benefit
  • Experience gained on prudential topics ideally within Supervision in a financial regulator, dealing with those groups from within a regulated firm, or more broadly as a result of banking experience (beneficial)
  • Experience of managing regulatory interactions and implementation (beneficial)
  • Background gained in banking either from Compliance/Regulatory, Business Management or COO roles (beneficial)
  • Business experience/knowledge (beneficial)
